Lending my Skills
I've known about my indigenous an afro-caribbean ancestry since very young. However, the erasure of such heritage was as personally devastating to me as it has been for others with the same background. Not much was as publicly available as it is today. The more time passed, the more connections I found to my indigeniety. I've actively looked into this history for most of my life, have learned as much as I can and have actively seeked and participated in community with my fellow Taino and Afro-Caribbean folks. In 2023, I had the opportunity to lend my skills as an animator for the first ReEncuentro Taino Conference in 2023 which included folks with Taino background from most of the major antilles island where our ancestors lived and thrived up until 1492. I helped with the promo materials on social media as well as animations for the conference's speaker introductions. It was an absolute honor to have gotten to participate and help.
About the Conference
Held in August 2023, the inaugural Reencuentro Taíno Conference was an incredible success.
